Worth seeing
The late Gothic style church “Unserer Lieben Frau” with
its bulbous spire welcomes majestically from afar. Worth seeing is
especially the complete town-wall from the 14th century including
its water containing bulwark moat.
Central point of the historical
city is the town hall from the time of the 15th century. Further
strength of the historic past are the house of the former governor,
the former grammar school, impressive common- and frame work houses
as well as the “Zehntscheune” which houses the cabbage
land museum.
Concerts, folklore activities, sculpture- and artist
classes complete the many-fold recreational activities,
Close to the town one can find the idyllic natural open-air bath
including camping ground and large playground.
Today Merkendorf is an optimal starting point for hike- and bicycle
tours throughout the large “Mönchswald” and the
“ Fränkische
Seenland”. Comfortable apartments and hotel rooms and, last
but not least, the excellent frankonian cookery will help to spent
an unencumbered vacation in Merkendorf. In addition, for visitors
of the soccer world champion ship 2006 we are able to offer ideal
overnight accommodations either in holiday homes or our camping
ground.
